Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This policy explains what data the Meow bot collects, why, and how it is handled. MeowCord is an adults-only (18+) community, so age verification is part of joining. It applies to data processed when the Bot is used in a Discord server.

The only data we store off Discord is what is listed in section 2. Everything else — including verification images — stays inside Discord, on Discord’s own infrastructure, and never reaches our servers.

2. What we store

• Discord identifiers: user, server (guild), channel and role IDs needed to operate features.
• Profile & roles: your username and your current roles, kept so we can persist roles and re-apply your roles automatically if you leave and rejoin the server.
• Age-verification result: your verified status and your date of birth, plus your gender and nationality from an identity check (to confirm you are 18 or older). See section 3.
• Activity & engagement: counts and stats such as messages sent, message length (used only to award leveling XP), voice time, leveling XP/level, and invite attribution.
• Economy & cooldowns: your currency balance and the short-lived cooldown timers that rate-limit certain features.

Operational values such as your username, current roles, currency balance and cooldowns are held in our fast in-memory cache (Redis).

3. Age verification

To confirm members are 18 or older, MeowCord offers two verification routes:

• Manual review: you submit a photo of your government ID to a private ticket reviewed by staff. You may black out everything except your date of birth and photo. Those images stay only inside the Discord ticket, on Discord’s own infrastructure — they are never copied to our servers.
• Didit identity verification: you complete a guided ID scan hosted by Didit, our third-party identity-verification provider. Didit processes your identity document on its own systems; from a passing check MeowCord receives only your date of birth, gender, and nationality — never a copy of your ID document. Only when a check is referred to manual review do our verification staff additionally see a portrait photo and a selfie (the face-match images), posted into a private Discord ticket so a decision can be made. Didit’s handling of your document is governed by Didit’s privacy policy.

We retain your verified status and date of birth (see section 7). Any verification images — manual-verification photos, or the portrait/selfie seen during a Didit manual review — remain only inside the Discord ticket and are never stored on our infrastructure.

4. Messages

We process your messages in real time for content moderation — automated checks that help keep the community safe and within the rules — and we measure the length of a message to award leveling XP. This processing is transient: messages are evaluated as they arrive and are not logged, archived, or stored, and are never kept for review or analytics. Only the resulting XP/level is retained.

5. How we use it

Data is used solely to provide and operate the Service: verifying that members are 18 or older, running bot features and moderation configured by server staff, leveling, and giveaways. We do not sell your data.

6. Service providers

We rely on third parties to run the Service, including Discord (platform), our database and hosting providers, Didit (identity/age verification — see their privacy policy), and UnbelievaBoat (currency). These providers process data on our behalf.

7. Retention

Operational data is kept while the Bot is in your server and for as long as needed to provide the Service. Verification records (your verified status and date of birth) are kept while you are a member. Verification images are held only inside the Discord ticket, on Discord’s platform, and are never stored on our infrastructure. Removing the Bot stops further collection, and you may request deletion using the contact details below.

8. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal data. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

9. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect data, but no system is perfectly secure. The operational data we hold is access-restricted, and verification images remain within Discord rather than on our own systems.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
